The Walk of Artemis. Mount Olympus.
Some images from the Walk of Artemis, (Goddess of the Forest), around the summit of Mount Olympus in Cyprus. On this day the mountain was thick with mist, which swept in and out according to its whim, sometimes reducing visibility to a couple of metres in a few seconds, then retreating to reveal entire forest scenes against a backdrop of pearlescent cloud.
We stuck to the the single path through a mysterious ghible-esque alive forest, staring at the strangely truncated pine trees, wondering what lay just out of sight and tip-toeing past the gnarled and twisted old mountain pines lest they grab our ankles as we crept by and keep us for their own.
After several hours of wandering, we succeeded in circumambulating the mountain. We hadn't seen a single other human being, had barely heard a sound and were soaked in cloud.
It is one of the most atmospheric walks I have every done.
